U-2 Sighted!
Imprint Fanzine (1980-05-01)
U-2 drummer LARRY MULLEN seen at BLADES’ residency in the Magnet last week. Larry reveals that the first U-2 45 to be released in the U.K. is not, as-expected, “Stories for Boys”. Instead, it’s to be a new one, “ELEVEN O’CLOCK TICK TOCK”. He assures us it’s totally uncommercial, and wont hit. The reasoning behind this is to build up a cult following for the band before unleashing the masterplan, sure-fire-hit, “Stories for Boys” as their 2nd British single. Seemingly, “11 O’clock Tick-Tock” veers away from the U-2 sound, into the territory explored previously explored by such as Joy Division and The Fall. The U-2 LP, “Boy” (?) should be out here by Late Autumn.
