“Walk On” Digital Release, August 16, 2024
Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2024-08-15)
The next in a series of singles in the “To Love and Only Love” collection will be released, tomorrow, Friday, August 16. This time it is the single “Walk On”. The collection, “To Love and Only Love“ will reissue 12 singles in total, throughout 2024 to streaming services. Many of these tracks have not been available in the past on these services. The tracks included here are taken from the commercial singles released in 2001 on CD. A new single has been released roughly every two weeks since the project started, but have more recently been appearing weekly. This is the 11th single released in the collection. The final single is expected to be “Electrical Storm”.

The songs included on the new “Walk On” release, available tomorrow, are as follows:
- “Walk On” (Single Version / Remastered 2024) – U2 (04:10)
- “Where the Streets Have No Name” (Live from Boston, MA, Jun. 6, 2001 / Remastered 2024) – U2 (06:03)
- “Gone” (Live from Boston, MA, Jun. 5 / 6, 2001 / Remastered 2024) – U2 (04:56)
- “Stay (Faraway, So Close!)” (Live from Toronto, ON, May 25, 2001 / Remastered 2024) – U2 (05:38)
Releases will be available in CD quality and compressed versions, as well as a higher resolution digital release at 24-bit, 44.1kHz.
The release contains tracks from two live shows on the 2001 Elevation tour, one from Toronto on May 25, and two from Boston a few weeks later on June 5/6. The full Boston performance was released recently as part of the 20th anniversary celebration of All That You Can’t Leave Behind. Not included in the release are two versions of “Walk On” that had appeared on commercial releases in 2000 / 2001. The “Walk On” (Edit) version (04:29) had appeared on the North American single. The “Walk On” (Video Version) (04:31) which had appeared on the single in the rest of the world is also not present. (And yes, although they have similar run times, there are differences in the mix between these two versions that have not been included.)
The title track, the “Walk On” (Single Version) is a slightly different version than was available on the original single in 2001. Some of Bono’s vocals have been removed from this new version, but otherwise the mix is very similar. (The first 40 seconds now has removed vocals, where the original Bono could be heard in this section more prominently.)
The “Walk On” single was released twice in 2001. The first release, for North America, corresponded to “Stuck in a Moment” being released elsewhere in the world. The B-sides from that initial “Walk On” release were collected earlier in this series as part of the “Stuck in a Moment” reissue. The second release of “Walk On” for the remainder of the world, came on November 19, 2001. (In North America, “Stuck in a Moment” was released instead.) “Walk On” hit #5 in the UK, and #7 in Ireland. In 2002 it was nominated, and won, Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards. It had also been nominated, but didn’t win Best Rock Song.
“Walk On” was previously released as a digital single as part of The Complete U2 and there was also a stand-alone release on some digital services featuring just two additional tracks, the live versions of “Stay (Faraway, So Close!)” and “Where the Streets Have No Name”.
