What’s Next?

Today Bono and the Edge will appear in concert for World AIDS Day in New York City. The concert at Carnegie Hall will include appearances by Hozier, Miley Cyrus, and Jessie J. Bono is also pairing with Omaze.com / (RED) to auction off a chance to ride a bike with him through Central Park. And it is expected that there will be some Bono content, pretaped as he will be in New York, on Jimmy Kimmel’s (SHOPATHON) show this evening.
Next week, the Innocence and Experience tour winds down with two rescheduled dates in Paris. U2 was set to perform there on November 14 and 15th and had to cancel the appearances due to the attacks in Paris. The band will perform there on December 6th and 7th, and the show on Monday December 7th will be shown on HBO at 9:00PM ET in the United States and Canada (with replays December 8 at 3:10AM ET, December 11 at 12:45PM ET, December 12 at 12:50AM ET, December 19 at 7:10AM ET in Canada). It is also expected to be shown on RTE in Ireland, and other stations around the world after the intial broadcast on HBO.
But where does U2 go next after these appearances? A variety of sources including u2tour.de, U2 en España, and U2 Argentina have all posted information that a European tour that was rumoured to happen in the Spring of 2016 now will not happen. As the tour was never announced we cannot say that it was cancelled, however, there were strong rumours of dates and venues being booked in Portugal, Spain, Germany, Austria and Poland for this proposed tour. It now appears that none of these dates will happen. This is unrelated to the attacks in Paris, and indeed these first rumours that these 2016 dates will not happen came before the Paris attacks. Instead it looks like the band will take a break for the first part of 2016, and work to complete Songs of Experience, the album which is due in September 2016. Anton Corbijn in a recent interview that he has worked with the band for this new release that is planned for next fall.
Expect a quiet start to 2016 for the band after they wrap up the current tour. However, expect a flurry of activity if the album is completed, as the band once again would hit the promotional trail in the Fall.
