Zucchero’s New Album Confirmed, will contain Track with Bono
Original story by Aaron J. Sams (2016-03-18)
Note: This is an update of our previous story from December, about a new song Bono wrote for Zucchero’s album. The original story can be found here.
It’s official. Zucchero’s new album has been announced and it will be called Black Cat and it is due to be released in Europe on April 29, 2016. The album will contain a new song written by Bono called “Streets of Surrender (SOS)” which the press release from RTL called a hymn to freedom and a song against hatred. The song was written by Bono in the aftermath of the Paris attacks.
While being interviewed on CNN in December, Bono revealed that he had written a new song called “Streets of Surrender (SOS)” for his friend Zucchero. This song is the latest in a number of songs Bono has written for Zucchero over the years including 1992’s “Miserere” which was performed by Zucchero and Pavarotti and released on a single, and on Zucchero’s Miserere album. Bono wrote English lyrics for 1998’s “Blue” available as a single and on Zucchero’s Blue Sugar album. Bono also wrote “Someone Else’s Tears” for Zucchero’s 2010 album Chocabeck. Bono has not performed on these previous recordings, he has only contributed lyrics.
The lyrics of “Streets of Surrender (SOS)” that Bono revealed in December went as follows:
Streets of Surrender, written by Bono
Every man has two cities he needs to be
The one he can touch
And the one he can’t see
The one where a stranger’s a friend
Every man has got one city of liberty
For me it’s Paris – I love it
Every time I get lost down these ancient streets I find myself again
You’re free, baby, baby
Free now and forever
It’s Christmastime
You can decide to forget or to remember
You’re free baby baby
I didn’t come down here to fight you
I came down these streets of love and pride to surrender
The streets of surrender
I heard a far fetched story
That nobody seems to know
I think it was about that stranger
It was youth, it was love and it was danger
It was winter with that warm it gets before the snow
It chilled my soul
Everybody’s crying about some kid
That they found lying on a beach
Born in a manger
You’re free baby baby
Free now and forever
It’s Christmastime
You can decide to forget or to remember
You’re free, baby, baby
I didn’t come down here to fight you
I came down these streets of love and pride to surrender
The streets of surrender
The album will be released in Europe on Universal Music, with a release date of April 29, 2016 in Italy, and May 2 in Europe. There will be a North American release, but it is expected it may be a few weeks behind the European release. We will update the story as we find more information.
