Show Details:
U2 performing under the name The Hype performed at Slack Alice, a nightclub on O’Connell Street in Dublin. Dik Evans was still a part of the band at this point. The date of this show is unknown, but it is known that it was after April 11, 1977 which is a show that U2 played still under the name Feedback.
The venue, opened at 57 Upper O’Connell Street, opened in December 1976, taking over the former location of Good Time Charley’s. Slack Alice promised bands performing each night for the low admission of £1.00. To keep up with that they turned to a number of new bands on the scene to fill in dates throughout the year. The club burned down on February 15, 1978, completely destroyed.
(Some databases list this as an April 13, 1977 date, but this is only done to place it after April 11, and the date more likely happened in the second half of the year. The venue is known as Slack Alice, not Slack Alice’s.)
