U2 play their third and final gig opening a show at the Arcadia Ballroom in Cork City. When they return to the venue a few weeks later they will be the headliner.

The show features four bands on the roster. U2 join the Virgin Prunes and a new band Z in opening for DC Nien. U2 are third on the bill, just ahead of the headline act. Z includes Steve Averill among its members, and during the show, Averill’s band play scenes from the film Nosferatu and incorporates some of the film music into their act. Little is known of U2’s own performance on this night. The set list is unknown.

Shows at the Downtown Campus are sponsored by the University College of Cork, and are arranged by the entertainment officer at the U.C.C. who booked the shows. Joe O’Herlihy who has been U2’s sound guy for concerts for over forty years started his career at the Arcadia as a house sound man. It is during these shows that he first got to know U2. O’Herlihy was working sound for this show.
