This is a Monday night show that is listed as part of the “Come Out to Play” tour ad. The Blue Lagoon lists itself as a cabaret lounge, tudor lounge and saloon bar.
U2 were paid £100 for this show, and the tickets at the door were to cost £1.50. Doors for the show open at 8pm. According to a local paper the concert is sold out. The show is supported with a number of ads in the local papers, which talk about U2’s wins in the Hot Press Readers Poll including Best Irish Band, Best Live Band, Best New Band, and Best Single of 1979.
The contract for this show was signed with Maurice Cassidy Promotions. U2 received 100 Irish pounds or 70% of the gross receipts. The contract specified that the price of the show should not exceed 2 Irish pounds.
The tour ad stated that the opening act duties on the tour would alternate between The Kidz and The Shade. It is not known which band would have played this evening.
Although we could guess that U2 played the five songs they had released at this show, including “Out of Control”, “Stories for Boys”, “Boy / Girl”, “Another Day” and “Twilight” we have not seen anything that would confirm that these songs were indeed played.
Of the show, Bono and Adam Clayton shared with the Sunday Press, “The opening night in Sligo was tremendous, but we were disappointed with last night’s gig in Bray”.
