Show Details:
There isn’t much information known about the second show of the “11 O’Clock Tick Tock” tour, promoting U2’s new single in the UK. It isn’t even among the dates listed as having been performed at U2.Com, but the date has been identified through tour ads and newspaper clippings.
In 1979, U2’s first show in London was held at the Moonlight Club, and they returned there ten days later to perform again. This is the first time they’ve returned since those December 1979 shows. They will return and play here two additional times later in 1980.
Fashiøn was listed as opening all of the shows on this tour, however, it is known that they missed some shows. However, their appearance with U2 at this show is confirmed by gig guides published the week of the shows.
In the Record Mirror, Chris Westwood provides a review of the show, “Springing from behind a dormant buzzy house PA into graceful full – tilt, U2’s second Brit – tour date was the kind of remonstration I’d hoped for, all loose wires and sound – swamps, flawed and gorgeous. The fact that this was bulging with faults, humorous little cock ups, mikes falling over, cigarettes refusing to light, etc etc – won’t bother U2, because that’s what they’re all about. Line them up with The Fall and you’ve two examples of people attacking pop with vengeance, thriving on all they leave askew or out of place, forcefully questioning all the myths, rules and plastic regulations of rock n roll ‘discipline’, and conversely making the most valuable rock n roll there is…” He also mentions several songs played in the evening, “‘11 O’Clock Tick Tock’ mightn’t be chart fodder, but it’s a gem, cutting and cruising along, a sort of instrumental with lyrics. ‘Twilight’ sticks out too, tangled and torn and viciously sensitive. Or ‘Stories For Boys’ or ‘Another Time Another Place”…”
