The third show in the UK as part of the “11 O’Clock Tick Tock” tour see U2 playing outside of London for the first time in England. The show takes them to Sheffield, where they play the University there.

Fashiøn was listed as opening all of the shows on this tour, however, it is known that they missed some shows. They are not present tonight, as U2 are opening for another act. Tonight’s show is headlined by John Otway and Wild Willy Barrett and U2 are providing the opening act for the evening. They play a shortened set.

U2 are introduced by Kevin Bartlett, one of the members of the Ents committee at Sheffield. Unhappy with the introduction Paul McGuinness takes the stage and redoes the introduction ahead of U2’s performance. “Please welcome, all the way from Dublin, Ireland, a band with a new single on Island Records, 11 O’Clock Tick Tock…U2”

Bartlett shares, “The band struck up a few chords and there was something there. Good music, a great stage presence, and what’s more, punters started to come into the hall from the bar (a rare occurrence for a support band). The set was excellent and the hall was pretty full by the time it ended, the band had something. I went out and bought the single next time I was in the record shope, and I’m still buying U2 CDs today.”

Attendees say it’s a small show, with only about 50 people in attendance as U2 take the stage. The show is promoted by the Student Union at the University of Sheffield and is held at the Student Union building. U2 received £50 for the show.
