Show Details:

U2’s performance in Brighton at the New Regent is only their second show in England outside of London, their show two nights earlier in Sheffield was their first. But that show was opening for another act, this is U2’s first headline show outside of London.

The venue opened in 1977 and was in operation until 1983.

Fashiøn was listed as opening all of the shows on this tour, however, it is known that they missed some shows. They are confirmed to have played this show by additional notices in gig guides published the week of the shows.

Neil Storey, press officer for Island Records, drove down to the show in Brighton with the head of press, Rob Partridge. Storey shares “I remember as a long narrow room with not a lot of people in it. What struck me about Bono around that time was that he was always asking questions, very inquisitive and analytical. We sat and chatted about a Rolling Stones video, and he was remarking on how Mick Jagger worked the audience. Bono wanted to be the best, and he wanted to learn from the best.”
