Snippets of Other Songs Performed by U2:
This show on the U2 tour is sparsely attended. One person who attended claims that there were only five people at the show and they sat on stage with the band and drank pints while the band played most of the songs from the album Boy. Many years later, in 2018, at a show in London at the O2 Arena Bono recalls some early shows where they played to small crowds in and around London. “London is where it all started for us… 34 people at the Hope and Anchor…. We played to 13 people in Bristol… just want to say… this is better.”
U2’s earlier show in Bristol was reported to be better attended by a crowd of about 75 people in May 1980. So it is very likely that this is the night to which Bono refers to an audience of just 13 people.
The full set list is unknown.
Carwardines was a venue upstairs from The Berkeley Café, in a complex carrying the same name. The upstairs venue had high ceilings, and was used as a ballroom, and many bands performed on the stage over the years. Admission to this show was £1.25.
