Show Details:

Little is known about this show although reports say that the venue was tightly packed for this show. At one point an announcement is made asking people to back up from the stage stating that the stage is not very strong. There are reports of some fans jumping on stage, to get out of the crowded conditions and exiting to the side. “Cry” opens “The Electric Co.” during this performance. Admission was £2.00 and the show started at 8:30pm.

Advance tickets listed Delta 5 as the opening act, although other sources say Altered Images played at this show. On the tickets U2 is listed as U-2. Andrew Collins, a journalist from the area was at the show and confirms that it was Altered Images at the show, and that Delta 5 had been crossed out on tickets.

Collins memories of the concert include the following, “In January 1981, I attended my first ever gig, a momentous moment in any music fan’s life. It was U2 – supported by Altered Images – at the refectory over at Park Campus in Kingsthorpe. The band were touring their debut LP, Boy, which my friend Craig from Weston Favell and I were head over heels in love with. Over the years, my sheer proximity to Bono and the band from the mosh pit have become ever more precious. It was my first gig, so I had nothing to compare it to, thus, it was one of the greatest evenings of my life. It cost £2. And yes, my Dad picked us up in the car afterwards.”

A recording of this show is known to exist.
