Show Details:
This show is the last show that U2 play in North America as part of the Boy tour. The club they play is called Fast Lane, and it is U2’s first appearance here. They will return in the fall, but by that time the club has been renamed to Hitsville South.
This show was opened by Regina Richards & Red Hot, a band from New York. The lead singer would go on to have a successful solo career under her full name or just Regina.
The show is not sold out. The appearance at the club is arranged by promoter Jim Giantonio. Richard Biter who was a bouncer at the time spoke about U2’s first appearance at the club, “We thought it was hysterical that they didn’t have enough songs for a full set, I remember they were nice enough the first time, seemed like regular guys. If I recall correctly, they showed up in a crap van with crap equipment.”
Little was known about the songs played at this show until a 2011 show in East Rutherford NJ on the U2360 tour. During that day Bono was shown the setlist from the original show in New Jersey, 30 years prior. “So much has changed, so much hasn’t” he said as he started reading out the tracks of the original show.
The songs read by Bono in 2011 are used to make up the set list here and were “The Ocean, 11 O’Clock Tick Tock, I Will Follow, An Cat Dubh, Into the Heart, Another Time, Another Place, The Cry, The Electric Co., Things to Make and Do, Stories for Boys, Boy-Girl, Out of Control, and the encore was A Day Without Me, 11 O’Clock Tick Tock , The Ocean and I Will Follow.” If this is indeed the set list, the last time a show like this was played was early in May in Memphis, as more recent shows have had “I Fall Down” and “Fire” present.
