Show Details:

U2 return to Amsterdam and play at the Paradiso. Opening act is the band called Phantom Limb. Tickets are 10 Guilders. The show is recorded, and is broadcast on Dutch radio. U2 Live lists the attendance at this show as a sell out, and a full 1,000 in attendance at the show.

Bono introduces “Rejoice” by talking about Dublin. “Where we live, the city, they’re knocking down all the buildings in the city, they’re taking people to live on the outside of the city.” During “The Electric Co.” both “Cry” and “Send in the Clowns” are included. The concert is a strong performance, and the crowd are energetic and into the songs.

It is officially Larry Mullen’s birthday at midnight, the last of the band to leave their teens behind. The band spend the afternoon out in Amsterdam, and have stopped at a Dutch toy store and bought some toys to give Larry for his birthday. One of the gifts is a remote controlled car which Larry is seen playing with in the dressing room after this show. The presents are given to him during the show as it nears midnight, after the band plays “Fire.” The band also sing “Happy Birthday” to Larry. “This is very special tonight. It’s very special because the last teenager, our drummer, has just become 20 years old,” Bono says as he leads the crowd in song. After Bono finishes singing the crowd does another round of singing “Happy Birthday” and the band launch into “11 O’Clock Tick Tock.”

The show has aired on Dutch radio a number of times over the years.
