Show Details:

U2 are billed as U-2 for a performance at The Ripley Music Hall on South Street in Philadelphia, part of their October tour. It is the only time that U2 have played this venue. The club is a 21 and older venue, and tickets are sold via Ticketron and the box office. Capacity for the club was about 500 people.

The show is a typical one for the era, with very little crowd interaction between songs. He does introduce “With a Shout” as something very special. During “I Fall Down” the band continues to introduce the song by Bono showing the crowd that he can play guitar. On this night he says “This is when I try to be a musician. You have five minutes to find out I’m not. But I have nervous hands, nervous energy, I have to hold on to something. So…this is called ‘I Fall Down’…this is great by the way!” During “I Will Follow” Bono starts singing “I can’t breathe” and “I need some air” repeating each until someone brings him a fan to cool off. Snippets include “Cry” and “Send in the Clowns” as part of “The Electric Co.”

After the show Bono and Paul McGuinness joined the audience at the bar.
