Description:
Bono serenades President Bill Clinton with a Christmas-take on a familiar tune.
Show Details:
President Clinton was in London for a lecture on globalization held by the London School of Economics and Political Science. He was accompanied by his daughter Chelsea, who was with her dad when they went to The Groucho Club late in the evening. It was Mariella Frostrup that accompanied both Clintons to The Groucho Club.
Once at the Club, it was’t long before Bono and The Edge both appeared. Bono took to the piano to do a short number to honor President Clinton. He used the tune “Happy Birthday Mr President”, a song that Marilyn Monroe had sung for a fundraiser for JFK in 1962.
It being Christmas, and no birthday in sight, Bono changed the words to be “Happy Christmas Mr President”.
