Show Details:
On Saturday January 17, U2 and other acts participating the inauguration of Barack Obama, took to the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC to rehearse. U2’s rehearsal included two songs, each done twice. First they rehearsed “Pride (In the Name of Love)” and then “City of Blinding Lights” and then did the rehearsal a second time. As this was an outdoor rehearsal the performances were visible and audible by passers by. The same songs are performed the following day as part of the inauguration.
A write up in Rolling Stone of the rehearsals shared, “As the sun set, a familiar face in Washington stepped onto the stage. ‘I feel like I’m party crashing the American dream,’ said Bono, shaking his head in awe and bowing to the cheering crew. In moments, the rest of U2 joined him, launching into ‘Pride (In the Name of Love)’ and ‘City of Blinding Lights,’ pausing often to remark at the incredible moment in American history they were heralding.”
Others performing include Garth Brooks, James Taylor, John Legend and Bruce Springsteen.
