Show Details:

Milan is the second city on U2’s 360 tour. This is the first of the two nights that the band will perform in Milan. The locals around the venue have petitioned for a noise limit for the concert of 70dB, but the request is rejected by the mayor.

There is rain at the show tonight. The discoball is taller than the stadium tonight and can be seen from outside the stadium. The band are welcomed on stage by orange, white and green balloons.

At the end of “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” the band do a nice lengthy version of “Stand By Me” at the end of the song. Both “Man in the Mirror” and “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” by Michael Jackson make their way into the show via snippets in “Angel of Harlem”. The song is introduced as “a song for Billie Holiday, tonight we dedicated it to Michael Jackson.”

Bono’s daughter Eve is at the show tonight, and she comes onto stage for “Party Girl” which is performed for her this evening. Bono also sings her “Happy Birthday” on the stage for her 18th birthday. Bono shares champagne with Eve, and she gets hugs from the entire band.

Fans pull off some amazing ‘choreography’ during “Unknown Caller” both nights in Milan. During the song, thousands of fans hold up red and white sheets that had been placed in their seats to make the numbers 3:33 that can be heard in the song. The numbers are made up of 6000 white sheets of paper and 2000 red sheets.

Ahead of “One” Bono speaks about the G8 meeting in Italy being held this week, “Italians have given many gifts to the world, modern physics, the Renaissance, the piano, the gift of song from Puccini to Luciano Pavarotti to Jovanotti. In the next few days at the G8 your leader will decided where he stands on the gift of life for people far beyond your shores. If you think he should do what he promised for the poorest and most vunerable in Africa you need to let him know because he is not increasing aid as he said he would.”

Celebrities spotted in the crowd include Woody Harrelson and Nicoletta Mantovani, the widow of Luciano Pavarotti. Also present? Designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

A special T-Shirt and poster are available as part of the merchandise tonight, both containing the dates of the Milan shows, as well as other information specific to these tour stops.

During soundchecks, the band plays “Magnificent”, “City of Blinding Lights”, “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” and “I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight”.
