Show Details:
U2 play a second show in Gothenburg, Sweden as part of the U2360 tour at Ullevi Stadium. Snow Patrol open the show. The venue has low ends on both sides, and there’s a clear view into the stadium from the surrounding areas. Approximately 2000 people are reported to have enjoyed the show from outside the stadium.
It’s a warm and calm evening, quite a change from the windy, cold evening that had greeted the band the night before. Willie Williams in his U2.com diary spoke about taking a walk outside the stadium to see the people enjoying the show from outside, “During ‘Walk On’ I took my camera and headed out of the venue to have a look. Seeing our stage production in action, looming up over the wall of the stadium, made it look even more like it had just descended from space. The mirrorball on top of the pylon must have been visible from half of Gothenburg.”
During the show U2 try “Electrical Storm” again. It had been played twice during the first week of the tour, but had not been played again. Tonight is the last time it appears in the U2360 shows. “New Year’s Day” which had it’s debut in Dublin the previous week is also back in the show tonight for it’s second appearance in U2360. “Stay (Faraway, So Close!)” which is another recent addition to the tour is also in the set tonight.
A number of snippets make it into the set tonight, but fewer than usual. “Blackbird” appears in “Beautiful Day”, “Movin’ On Up” appears in “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”, “Reverend Black Grape” appears in “I’ll Go Crazy”. “The Call Up” appears in “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone” appears during “Walk On”.
