Show Details:

The tour moves from Scotland back to England, with a single show at Sheffield’s Don Valley Stadium. The opening acts are Elbow and The Hours. The show is the second to last stop on this leg of the U2360 tour.

Added pressure tonight comes in the form of a live broadcast which is being carried by various Bauer Network radio stations around the UK, online at QTheMusic.com, and for U2.com subscribers. The live stream is announced through a radio station owned ILoveU2OnTheRadio.com which also hosts a contest to see one of the final shows on the tour. (Sheffield or Glasgow) The full program includes five hours of airtime including interviews, the whole show uninterupted and other footage celebrating the band.

Introducing “Magnificent” Bono pretended to be confused at which city in the North of England they were in going through a list that included Rotherham, Doncaster, Leeds, and Manchester, all cities near to where the band were.

The show is also a hometown show for the band’s tour guru, Willie Williams, show designer. It’s also Willie’s birthday tonight, something Bono shares with the crowd, urging 45,000 to join him in singing “Happy Birthday” to Williams after “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”.

The snippets tonight include “Blackbird” at the end of “Beautiful Day”, “Movin’ On Up” to finish off “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” and “Pour Some Sugar on Me” during “Vertigo”. “I Don’t Want to Join The Army”, “Reverend Black Grape” and “Two Tribes” all make an appearance during “I’ll Go Crazy”. “Oliver’s Army” appears during “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and U2’s own “Gloria” gets a nod during “Where the Streets Have No Name”. “Walk On” has the snippet of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” that has been part of the song since the early days of the tour.

Charles Hutchinson in The Press reviewed the show saying, “They open with a run of four new songs, Get On Your Boots still trying too hard, before Beautiful Day signifies the night’s flow through most of the 18 singles hits and more cherry-picking from No Line. The Joshua Tree songs retain their relentless grip on the audience’s affections but, unlike The Rolling Stones, U2 still add pearls to their canon. Better still, they already are reinventing material from No Line, the screen imagery assisting a far punchier Unknown Caller to new heights, while I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight has been given a club mix, with Larry Mullen taking his drums for a walk around the 360 perimeter.”

The band are off to Wales for a final show on the European leg, before taking the show to North America in September.
