Show Details:

This is the second of two shows held at Gilette Stadium, in Foxborough, just to the south of Boston. Snow Patrol opens the show. It is the third city on the second leg of the U2360 tour, and the third city to get two shows.

The show starts off with a surprise. Instead of “Breathe” opening the show, which it has done on every show to date, the show instead opens with “Magnificent”. “Breathe” is dropped completely from the show. “Your Blue Room” is back tonight, only the third performance ever of the song. For “Breathe” Larry would often come out and start to play by himself, tonight with “Magnificent” all four band members hit the stage at the same time and start in together as a band.

Bono is seen wearing a pair of devil horns courtesy of a fan during “Vertigo”.

Bono brings a girl onto the stage during “Until the End of the World” and they find themselves on different bridges at one point during the song. Bono starts gesturing to the crew that he wants the bridges brought together even shouting “bridges”. The crew realize he wants to close the gap between the bridges, and he reaches out for the girl but never quite touches her. It’s a moment that will be repeated on subsequent tour dates with the Edge, becoming an iconic moment in the show.

Some interesting snippets pop up tonight. Bono includes a bit of Snow Patrol’s “Run” during “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”. It is Snow Patrol’s last show on the tour for a while. U2’s album Pop shows up for a snippet in the form of “Mofo” during “City of Blinding Lights” and “Stories for Boys” from their first album Boy appears during “Vertigo”. Other snippets include “Jump Around” during “Elevation”, “King of Pain” during “Beautiful Day”, “I Want to Take You Higher” during “I’ll Go Crazy” and both “Amazing Grace” and “All You Need is Love” during “Where the Streets Have No Name”.

Although the band has been trying a new encore piece ahead of “Ultra Violet” featuring Maya Angelou, they go back to the distorted electronic voices piece tonight, and will use it for the next few performances.

Some of the U2 crew come onto the stage during Snow Patrol’s performance of “Shut Your Eyes” and drape Gary Lightbody in a white feather boa. The band has done a number of shows in Europe and the US, and are finished for now until the third leg in 2010.

Ashley Judd is at the show again this evening, having also been at the previous night’s show. Football player Tom Brady is also present.
