Show Details:

The third city on the third leg of the U2360 tour is Hannover in Germany. It is the second of three shows in Germany, all in different cities. Kasabian continues on the tour this evening.

The show is pretty similar to the one a few nights earlier in Frankfurt, although they played around with the order of a few songs in the middle of the main set, there were no new songs added. Like that show only two new songs are played, “Stingray Guitar” and “Glastonbury”, there is no sign of “North Star” which had been part of the opening concert in Turin.

Before “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” Bono introduces the band. He’s having fun with the rebuilt in Germany line he’s been using since his operation, and pretending to be a robot on the stage for the introductions. “We come from a small green planet called Ireland.” He shares that his spaceship crashed a few years ago, and it was German doctors and nurses who put him back together, and one of the nurses is at the show tonight. Bono claims she’s the one that put the “Made in Germany” mark on his ass. He goes with Star Wars characters tonight using the droid voice. The Edge is R2-D2. Adam Clayton is Princess Leia. And Larry Mullen is Darth Vader, which causes Larry to crack a big smile. Bono can’t remember the name of his character, calling himself the hairy one. He’s later told he’s Chewbacca.

Bono shares that Paul McGuinness was born in Hannover as well from the stage, claiming it happened 125 years ago.

The Happy Birthday sung at the end of the show was for Wim Wenders who is turning 55 in a few days. Bono fits in the birthday wishes before the band plays “Moment of Surrender” at the end of the night, calling Wenders a mentor and a guide. Wenders is in the audience tonight to hear the song.

“Moment of Surrender” is dedicated to Robert Enke. Enke was a German professional footballer, goalkeeper with the German national team. Enke took his own life in November 2009. Larry Mullen wears a Hannover 96 jersey at the end of the show, which is one of the teams that Enke played with during his career.

Snippets included during the show are “My Sweet Lord” during “Mysterious Ways”, “Movin’ On Up” at the end of “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”, “Rock You Like a Hurricane” as part of “Vertigo” and “Funky Town” and “Discotheque” during “I’ll Go Crazy”. “You’ll Never Walk Alone” has its usual spot at the end of “Walk On” and “Amazing Grace” and “All You Need is Love” are part of “Where the Streets Have No Name.”

German president Christian Wulff is at the show tonight. Wulff’s wife bought the tickets for the show before he became president, and after taking the job shared he was still hoping to attend. Also present at the show are artist Sam Taylor, actor Aaron Johnson, and director Wim Wenders.
