Show Details:

The second half of this leg of the tour begins in Zurich, Switzerland. The band are booked to play two shows at the Letzigrund Stadium. When they visited in 2005 they played just one concert at the stadium. OneRepublic are the opening act for the two shows in Switzerland. Lead singer, Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic will work with U2 on their next album, 2014’s Songs of Innocence in a producer capacity. The stadium, opened in 1925 was recently renovated in 2007.

It’s a beautiful night for a concert. Recent shows have been plagued by rain, and the first show for Zurich like Athens allows for the crew to dry out for a bit. Outside the venue advertisers are handing out blue plastic sunglasses, earplugs and other items. The show goes off with no notable errors, and the band play a set list pretty consistent with what they’ve played on this leg of the tour.

The show is done with “Magnificent” ahead of “Beautiful Day” tonight. This is the first time U2 have followed “Return of the Stingray Guitar” with anything other than “Beautiful Day.” Over the last few shows U2 have only been playing “Return of the Stingray Guitar” out of the new songs, but tonight “Every Breaking Wave” is back, making it’s third appearance in a show. The song is done by Bono and the Edge following “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”. Tonight is the last time that “Every Breaking Wave” will be heard on the U2360 tour. It will next appear when U2 are doing promotional appearances for their next album, Songs of Innocence.

During the band introductions Bono interviews the band about their thoughts on Switzerland. Adam Clayton shared that the Swiss think before they build. The Edge said he cannot get over the Alps. And Larry Mullen spoke about the punctuality of the Swiss trains.

Bono brings a girl out of the audience for “In A Little While” and part of “Miss Sarajevo”. He sings portions of the song to her on the ramps above the audience. Frank De Winne is seen on the video screen from the International Space Station reading the final verse of “In A Little While” – it’s pretaped though as De Winne is already back on Earth. The encore song which has been rotating is filled by “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me” this evening. Bono dedicates “Moment of Surrender” tonight to the Americans on the U2 crew, and those Americans present at the show on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Snippets include “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” in “City of Blinding Lights”, “Relax” and “Discotheque” in “I’ll Go Crazy”, “You’ll Never Walk Alone” in “Walk On” and “Amazing Grace” and “All You Need is Love” during “Where the Streets Have No Name”.

Tickets for this show went on sale on January 28, 2010 with a presale via U2.com starting on January 25. The show sells out quickly (16 minutes) during the general sale, and tickets are hard to come by on the day of the show, but just before doors open, tickets were made available via ticket outlets for the show.

In the afternoon reports say that “Mercy” and “Mothers of the Disappeared” have been sound checked. Neither is played during this show.
