The next stop of the U2360 show is two shows at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, Belgium. It’s a beautiful night, warm, and dry for a change. There’s a full moon in the sky over the stadium. Interpol opens the show tonight.
The show is very similar to the one a few nights earlier in Paris. There are three new unreleased U2 songs in the set list. “Return of the Stingray Guitar” opens the show. “North Star” and “Mercy” make appearances in the middle of the set. Although unreleased now, “Mercy” will be released on an EP called “Wide Awake in Europe”. That live performance of the show was recorded this evening in Brussels.
Bono speaks about the band’s ties to Brussels ahead of introducing the band. “You thought we had an Irish crew and we do, but actually this tour is run by Belgians. The 360 stage was built in Werchter, and we took it all over the world, so this is in fact the homecoming!” A young boy is brought up on the stage during the show tonight and Bono walks him around the stage.
In the encore it is “Ultra Violet” that fills the rotational slot in the set list. Like in other cities the crowd continues singing “With or Without You” well after the song ends, causing the band to delay the start of “Moment of Surrender”.
Snippets tonight include “Black is Black”, “C Moon” and “Norwegian Wood” during “Mysterious Ways” and “Movin’ On Up” at the end of “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”. “Ca Plane Pour Moi” appears in “Vertigo” and “Two Tribes” and “Relax” appear during “I’ll Go Crazy”. “You’ll Never Walk Alone” appears during “Walk On” and “Amazing Grace” and “All You Need is Love” are part of “Where the Streets Have No Name”.
In his diary on U2.com, Willie Williams shares, “We had another great crowd (I’m still slightly in awe of this run of exceptional shows) and after the gig was a crew party hosted by our Belgian tour vendors.”
The show went on sale on October 17. A U2.com presale started on October 13.
