Show Details:
U2 play the second of two nights in Brisbane, Australia. Jay-Z opens the show again this evening. Like last night, the U2 portion of the show starts early, in an effort to get a full show in before the curfew in town takes place. Unfortunately the show still runs late, and the final song of the night is not played. “Moment of Surrender” is missed for the first time on tour, and the concert ends with “With or Without You”. The curfew kicks in at 10:30, and U2 leave the stage moments before it starts.
Bono shares that the show is “Hotter than last night, and that’s a good thing, it was great last night, and tonight we are going to take it somewhere else.”
The show includes “Mercy” and “Bad” in the rotational position in the middle of the show. “Mercy”, an unreleased song when the tour began, has now been released as part of a live EP from the tour. Bono refers to U2 as “Minstrels here to serve you” in his introduction to “Mercy”. The band are introduced by their clothing. Larry is wearing the same T-Shirt he wore in 1976. Adam Clayton is called the silver fox in his grey outfit. And The Edge is “just about tethered to this Earth” and Bono shares that his dark grey shirt is “the new black.”
Bono is still remembering John Lennon 30 years after his murder in New York, and includes a number of snippets throughout the show. “Blackbird” appears in “Beautiful Day”, “She Loves You” appears in “Get On Your Boots”, both “In My Life” and “Instant Karma!” appear in “Bad”, and “All You Need is Love” appears in “Where the Streets Have No Name”. Bono is also remembering his friend Michael Hutchence including “Never Tear Us Apart” in “Mysterious Ways” and “Need You Tonight” in “Elevation”. Other snippets for the night include “Relax” during “I’ll Go Crazy”, “Oliver’s Army” during “Sunday Bloody Sunday”, “You’ll Never Walk Alone” during “Walk On” and “Amazing Grace” to start “Where the Streets Have No Name”.
The band sound checked “Mercy” and “All I Want is You” during the afternoon session. Many thanks to U2Gigs.com for the soundcheck information.
