Show Details:

U2’s second of three shows in Mexico City was the first show announced when the tour was rescheduled. But with the addition of extra shows it ended up being the second show that U2 play at Azteca Stadium. The shows kick off the final leg of the U2360 tour. Snow Patrol have rejoined the tour for the Mexico City shows.

The first night saw U2 playing “Even Better Than the Real Thing” and “Zooropa”, both of which were introduced on the previous leg, and both of which appear again tonight. Tonight they add in “Out of Control” which was also debuted recently in South America.

The band also add in a full version of “Stand by Me” as well as “Desire”, both of which have been played before in full on the tour, but not on the most recent leg. Bono spoke ahead of “Stand By Me” about the violence at the US / Mexico border in recent times.

Tonight is the anniversary of the death of Frank Sinatra. He passed away on this day 13 years ago, and Bono is ready with some tributes to him. During “Until the End of the World” he adds in snippets of both “Strangers in the Night” and “New York New York”, but the biggest tribute is the addition of “Stay (Faraway, So Close!)” to the set list after “Desire”. “Stay” started life as a song under the title “Sinatra” and was developed with Frank in mind.

Following “Stay” the band go on to “Beautiful Day”. Ahead of the song, Bono pulls a young woman on stage to read a poem ahead of the song. The poem, “Con Flores Escribes” is by Mexican poet, scholar and philosopher, Nezahualcóyotl.

Other snippets during the show include “Discotheque”, “Mofo” and “Please” during “I’ll Go Crazy” tonight. “Walk On” has the usual “You’ll Never Walk Alone” snippet. And “Amazing Grace” and “All You Need is Love” appear in “Where the Streets Have No Name”.

On the day before this show, U2 did an extended rehearsal including work on “Love Rescue Me” and “Out of Control” as well as work on “Unknown Caller”, “Ultra Violet”, “Even Better than the Real Thing” and instrumental work on “Vertigo”, “City of Blinding Lights”, “Zooropa” and the new remix of “Magnificent”.

This show went on sale on September 30, 2010, with U2.com presales for four subscriber groups starting on September 28, 2010.
