Show Details:

After five shows in Chicago, the Innocence and Experience tour returns to Canada for the third and final set of shows in that country. They will play two shows in Toronto at the Air Canada Centre, and this is the second of two shows. The process to get into the venue is lengthy with fans waiting in long queues to enter, and reports of lines almost a block long at 8pm.

The show that happened tonight was different than the one on the set list spotted prior to the show. “All I Want is You” follows “Angel of Harlem” at the e-Stage, it was originally supposed to be later in the show, following “Beautiful Day” but has been moved up. “The Crystal Ballroom” was on the set list as well, meant to be played where “All I Want is You” is now played. The song was dropped last minute, due to guitar issues, with Dallas bringing out multiple guitars to the Edge at the start of the song which was attempted after “All I Want is You”. Bono brings a female fan on stage during “Mysterious Ways” to play guitar on the next song, he invites her to play for “Angel of Harlem” and she also stays on stage for “All I Want is You”.

Since the original Joshua Tree tour, Bono has been occasionally including additional lyrics in “With or Without You” which go:

“Yeah, we’ll shine like stars in the summer night
We’ll shine like stars in the winter night,
One heart, one hope, one love,
With or Without You”

The piece is often sung with variations on those words, and Bono tends to bring the lyric out on special nights. The last time the lyric was sung was in 2011 in Montreal, and fans hoping to hear it have filled the audience with signs requesting it, with little stars drawn on the sign. Bono notices, and adds the lyric into “With or Without You” tonight, and it will reappear nine additional times before the end of the tour. Tonight the hashtag even starts trending on Twitter.

Jared Leto is spotted in the audience at the show, sporting his green hair for the role of the Joker for the Suicide Squad film he is making. Dave Grohl is also at the show, explaining the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” snippet early on in the show. Also at the show tonight is Shimon Peres, the former president of Israel, and Nobel Peace Laureate. Bono shares, “Nobel Peace Laureate Shimon Peres is in the house tonight. We understand President Peres that you have tried to be the voice of reason and dedicated a lot of your life, to try and bring peace in this really dangerous region. We wish that you who worked so hard for that incredible Oslo Accord, that you don’t give up the two state solution. We’re going to sing this song with two ancient peoples in mind.”

“The Electric Co.” includes pieces of “Send in the Clowns”, “I Can See for Miles” and Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. “Vertigo” includes “Do You Remember Rock ‘n’ Roll Radio?” and “God Save the Queen”. “Love and Peace or Else” pops up in “Until the End of the World”. Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic” finishes off “All I Want is You”. “The Hands That Built America” is in it’s usual segue position between “Bullet the Blue Sky” and “Pride (In the Name of Love)” and “Give Peace A Chance” pops up in “Beautiful Day”. “Mother and Child Reunion” is used in the introduction to “Where the Streets Have No Name” and that song has a mention of “California (There is No End to Love)”. “One” at the end of the show contains the “no them, only us” lines that are now more closely associated with “Invisible” but have been added to “One” for some time.

Both Toronto shows were announced on December 3, 2014, with a pre-sale for U2.com members taking place on December 4, 2014, and the general sale taking place on December 8, 2014.
