Show Details:

U2 return to the stage tonight for a second show in Amsterdam. They are performing four in the city as part of Innocence + Experience tour. Although his voice was a little rough in patches the previous night, Bono sounds in good voice tonight.

Tonight’s show sees “Gloria” played early on. It’s been played before on this tour, but not as frequently as other songs. It means the band play two songs from October tonight, “Gloria” and the title track, which in itself is rare. “Desire” and “Angel of Harlem” are back in the mid-show slots tonight, and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” is the show ender tonight.

After “I Will Follow” Bono gets the crowd singing “Vertigo” again and then talks at length about their love for Amsterdam. “so many attachments to this city. So many wonderful, wonderful nights in this great city, this great Port of Amsterdam. Thanks for having us back. I remember walking these streets with Herman Brood, great painter / musician, it was his birthday, it was a special time to spend with him. I remember the night Larry Mullen turned 21, in the Paradiso Club not so far from here. 21. He wanted a toy truck for his birthday. Now there’s 30 toy trucks, real trucks, parked outside the venue, are you happy now?” Bono speaks about how in many ways the band have not changed from their earliest days together as boys as the show shifts into a look at the early days in Dublin.

Meerkat seems to be cooperating tonight for the band after two nights without much success and a fan is brought on stage to film “Desire”. Another fan is brought on stage to play “Angel of Harlem”. Bono jokes about trying to find a “smaller person” to bring on stage after he arrives on stage. “I’ve got nothing against tall people, I just wouldn’t have one in the band!” The crowd is loud this evening, and when Bono tries to move into a snippet of Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic”, the crowd keep singing “Angel of Harlem” out loud, with Bono barely getting out the “we were born” before being cut off.

Van Morrison’s “Gloria” gets added on at the end of U2’s own song of that name tonight. “Until The End of the World” includes U2’s own “Love and Peace Or Else” as well as “Words” by the Bee Gees. “Mysterious Ways” includes “Burning Down the House”. “19” makes an appearance in “Bullet the Blue Sky” and “California (There is No End to Love)” is referenced in “Where the Streets Have No Name”. “Mother and Child Reunion” opens the final song, “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” which ends with “People Have the Power”.

Longtime collaborator Anton Corbijn is seen at the show this evening.

The Innocence + Experience tour was initially announced on December 3, 2014. This show was one of the initial shows announced. Tickets went on general sale on Monday, December 8. A presale for U2.com members started on December 4. (Subscribers who joined prior to September 9, 2014 were part of the Experience group and could go first, subscribers joining after that date were part of the Innocence group.) The first two Amsterdam shows were put on sale at the same time.
