Show Details:

The Admiralspalast Theater was opened in 1910, and is the home of tonight’s “Stories of Surrender” tour. At a capacity of 1756 people, it is one of the smaller venues on the tour, with only two others being smaller in size (Dublin at 1240, and Madrid at 1395.)

The show sees Bono performing songs, reading from his book, and acting out events from the book on stage, accompanied by three Irish musicians. Jacknife Lee, who has worked with U2 as a producer joins Bono on keyboards and drums. Kate Ellis accompanies him on cello and backing vocals, and Gemma Doherty is on harp, keyboards and backing vocals. Tonight’s show is the same as most of the other European shows to date, and does not include an encore. The German crowd is noticeably louder than audiences at previous shows on the tour.

Tonight at the show Bono’s wife Ali is present. Others in attendance include one of the nursing staff who was in the operating room during Bono’s surgery, discussed in the opening of the book. Film director Wim Wenders and photographer Donata Wenders are also present. Bono and U2 have contributed songs to a number of Wenders’ films, and Bono worked with Wim and Donata on Million Dollar Hotel. And German comedian, Michael Mittermeier who opened for U2 on the Elevation tour was in attendance.

There are just two more announced shows before this tour wraps up. Ahead of the show, Bono did greet some of the fans waiting outside of the venue. There are no reports that he visited a bookstore today in Germany.

Tickets for the show went on sale on Friday, October 7 at 10am. A special pre-sale for U2.com members happened the day before. All tickets for the show came with a copy of Bono’s new memoir, and the copy was given out at the show was the German copy of the book.

Many thanks to Zbyszko, Björn, Joerg and Patrick for their assistance with the set list and the notes tonight.
