Show Details:

Le Grand Rex is a theatre which first opened in 1932. It’s listed as a Monument historique in France, and is a venue with a capacity of 2800 in the Grand Hall, where the performance was held. It is the third largest show in Europe for the Stories of Surrender tour.

Ahead of the show, a large number of fans gathered to wait for Bono in the rain. Eventually Bono showed up, signing autographs for about five minutes before entering the venue.

The show sees Bono performing songs, reading from his book, and acting out events from the book on stage, accompanied by three Irish musicians. Jacknife Lee, who has worked with U2 as a producer joins Bono on keyboards and drums. Kate Ellis accompanies him on cello and backing vocals, and Gemma Doherty is on harp, keyboards and backing vocals. Tonight’s show is the same as most of the other European shows to date, and does not include an encore.

The show tonight is a typical one, and there have not been many changes throughout the entire tour. The French audience is loud, but not as wild as the previous show in Berlin. Bono’s voice is strong tonight, and sounds great. In the audience tonight is longtime friend and collaborator, Angelique Kidjo, Bono’s wife Ali and daughter Jordan are also at the show, as are Julian Lennon, Anton Corbijn, Bradley Cooper and Martin Garrix.

There is just one final show following this one, from those that have been announced to date. Additional shows have been discussed for the new year, but at this point nothing has been announced.

Tickets for the show went on sale on Friday, October 7 at 10am. A special pre-sale for U2.com members happened the day before. All tickets for the show came with a copy of Bono’s new memoir, and the copy was given out at the show was the French copy of the book.
