Bono appears on Che Tempo Che Fa to promote his memoir, Surrender.

Show Details:

Che Tempo Che Fa airs on Italian TV on RAI 3. The talk show regularly features musical guests, and has been airing since 2003. Fabio Fazio is the host of the program which is filmed in Milan. Although filmed without a studio audience during Covid, the program now once again features a studio audience. The show airs at 8pm on Sunday evenings.

On the way into the studio to film the interview and performance, Bono stopped to greet fans, and sign a few autographs. Attempts to schedule a stop in Italy for the “Stories of Surrender” tour did not work out, thus this is the only appearance in Italy. The announced dates of the “Stories of Surrender” tour ends the day after this appearance, with a final show in Madrid.

The appearance on the show starts with a performance of “With or Without You” with Kate Ellis, Gemma Doherty and Jacknife Lee, who have been joining Bono nightly on the “Stories of Surrender” tour. Bono then sits with host Fabio Fazio, answering questions about the book, and stories in the book. Part of the interview includes a touching video montage of Bono throughout the years, meeting with world leaders, travels through Africa, and performances. Bono is smiling throughout as he watches the video. A second video shown to Bono later in the interview focuses on his performance in the subway station below Kyiv earlier in the year. As Bono leaves after the interview he shakes hands with members of the small audience to great applause.

Backstage ahead of the show Bono takes photographs with the President of the Parliament of Europe, Roberta Metsola, who posts the photos to her social media feeds. She calls Bono a “global campaigner, rock legend and all round great guy,” calling him “the man who first shook the world in concerts and then into action.”

Bono and The Edge previously appeared on Che Tempo Che Fa in 2014 as part of the Songs of Innocence promotion, performing “The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)” and “Every Breaking Wave”. In 2017 as part of the Songs of Experience promotion, Bono and Edge would return to the show to perform “You’re The Best Thing About Me”, “Get Out of Your Own Way” and “Sunday Bloody Sunday”. Tonight is Bono’s third appearance on the show.
