Description:
Bono and The Edge appear at McDaid’s pub, just off of Grafton Street, to perform with Glen Hansard, Imelda May and many others.
Show Details:
Over the last two nights, Bono and The Edge have been seen in the company of David Letterman filming a special around Dublin and have given two performances now. The project is being kept under wraps, but is expected to air on Saint Patrick’s Day worldwide, and is expected it will be used for promotion of the upcoming Songs of Surrender album. Anton Corbijn has also been present these last few days.
Last night they were at the Ambassador Theatre, and tonight, Bono and The Edge were walking through the streets of Dublin with a film crew in tow, and Letterman with them. Tonight they ended up at McDaid’s pub, just off of Grafton Street. They were once again joined by Glen Hansard, as well as Imelda May, and once again a performance was given. It is known that Imelda contributed vocals at one point. Other local musicians who are regularly part of the annual busk were also in attendance. McDaid’s is a small venue and there was no audience for the performance. The bar was decked out for St. Patrick’s Day tonight for the evening, and not the expected Christmas decorations.
One of the songs performed was Bono with Glen Hansard doing U2’s “Desire”. Grian Chatten of Fontaines D.C. performed “Come Pick Me Up” a cover of a Ryan Adams song while Bono looked on from beside him at another part of the evening, and from photos it looks like Grian perfomed another song on guitar joined by Bono, Imelda May and Markéta Irglová. From the television special we see that Dermot Kennedy performed “For Island Fires and Family”, LOAH performed “Unveiled” and Colm Mac Con Iomaire performed “Port Na Bpucai”. We also see Bono and The Edge joining in with the gathered musicians on a performance of “A Rainy Night in Soho” and Bono performing “All I want is You” with the gathered musicians. Other songs were likely performed which are not listed here. Music was heard coming from inside for hours.
The musicians gathered include Bono and The Edge, Philip Ahern, Grian Chatten (Fontaines D.C.), Paddy Finnegan, Elizabeth Gipson, Glen Hansard, Lesley Ann Halvey, Colm Mac Con Iomaire (The Frames), Marketa Irglova, Dermot Kennedy, LOAH, Imelda May, Peter Moc, Alan Nolan, Carlo Puddu, Saint Sister and Ye Vagabonds.
A sign out front of McDaids placed earlier in the day announced that the pub was closed for a private event. By all reports the pub was filled with musicians involved in previous Christmastime Busks on Grafton Street, and was so busy that U2’s own security team waited outside.
