Show Details:

This is U2’s 33rd show at Sphere, Las Vegas, NV. The full listing of shows can be found in our show archive. These shows will be played without Larry Mullen who is healing from surgery to repair years of damage from drumming. U2 will once again be joined onstage by Bram van den Berg for these shows.

Show started a few minutes later than usual, with the “Lemon” remix starting at approximately 8:45 tonight. Even with the late start, a full show is performed. There were few known fan-streams out of the venue tonight, leaving information about this show a bit scattered for now. We will update over the coming days.

It’s the night before the Super Bowl will be played in Las Vegas, and this has resulted in some strangeness. On Thursday, GA tickets for both the Friday and Saturday night show appeared for sale again. And were available for the two days prior to this show. The GA tickets are listed at $249.65, which makes them look cheaper than the fan-to-fan resale options, but there are fees added at checkout bringing them up to the same price point. This late release of tickets (both GA and seats) floods the market and the secondary market has a fire sale on U2 tickets, with many of them being sold for a fraction of face value. The show appears to be well attended however, and the crowd seems to be enjoying themselves, as does the band.

Going into “Even Better than the Real Thing” Bono does his usual where-are-we bit, ““Where are we though? Oh yeah? Why are we? Who are we? I know who you are. You’re the Edge! I know who you are. You’re Adam Clayton! Now you? Haven’t I seen you somewhere before? Apart from last night? Bram-Bam-Thank-You-Ma’am.” Bono speaking to the crowd ahead of “Mysterious Ways” talks about the Super Bowl. “Some of you are here for the Super Bowl weekend. I get team sports. I’m in a team. There’s only two teams I’m interested in tonight, and they are both here. Those who want a good time, and those who want a great time. Let’s go for great shall we?”

Tonight’s turntable set is a unique one, although all of the songs have been heard before. The set starts out with “All I Want is You” which ends with Bono singing Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic”. Up next is “Desire” and then the band go into “Sweetest Thing” with Bono on piano. It is only the third time that the song has been played at Sphere after appearing two back-to-back nights in January. The turntable segment wraps up with “Love Rescue Me”.

As they have done with recent shows, a recording of Elvis Presley’s “Viva Las Vegas” is heard between the main set and the encore over the PA system. During “Elevation” Bono stops to name check Alicia Keys, singing “We believe in you…Alicia Keys, yes we do!”

Bono starts out the snippets early this evening with The Beatles’ “Drive My Car” which he sings after thanking Pauli the PSM. “Mysterious Ways” includes snippets of both “I Feel Love” and “Love to Love You Baby” this evening, both originally by Donna Summer. “Love Me Tender” holds its usual spot at the end of “One”. Bono adds in some lines from U2’s “Landlady” at the start of “Tryin’ to Throw Your Arms Around the World”. “Viva Las Vegas” comes in over the end of “Love is Blindness” at the end of the main show. In the encore “My Way” is part of “Elevation” as it has for all of these shows. “Moment of Surrender” is heard over the opening moments of “Where the Streets Have No Name”. And in “Beautiful Day” Bono includes a couple of his own songs, U2’s “Gloria” and the song “Miserere” by Pavarotti and Zucchero are included. (Bono wrote the English lyrics for “Miserere”, and here he just sings the one word, but it is evident what he is going for.) Also at the end of “Beautiful Day”, Bono returns to The Beatles singing “Blackbird” over the end. We will add snippets for “Until the End of the World” when we can confirm what was performed.

Billy Idol is at the show tonight, and live streams “Zoo Station” from his seat. Musicians Alicia Keys and Sheryl Crow are also both present at the show.
