Video Information
This is an edited version of the main video release for the song “Atomic City”.
The main video release had opened with a storyline of a young boy on a bicycle seeing a glowing object in the sky, and sees the Sphere landing in Las Vegas. We hear a brief bit of “Zoo Station” and then switch to scenes from the live performance by U2 in the Fremont Street are. The video ends with a view of the band performing inside of the sphere, and the baby displayed on Sphere saying “this is not a rehearsal.”
This edited version of the video reduces the run time to 02:06. For a musical track, the video uses the “Edit” which had been released as part of the “Atomic City“ promotional release.
To match the shortened track the video has been chopped down significantly in length. The non-musical section at the start is removed, including the scenes of Sphere, the boy on the bicycle, and the police organizing traffic. The video instead starts with a close up shot of the crowd just as the music started in the main video. The “Edit” chops out a number of verses and one repeat of the chorus to bring the song down to about 2 minutes. There is a slight repeat of the instrumental at the end of the track instead of a slow fade out, and the footage of the boy on the bicycle is used here. The video ends with him looking up at the light in the sky. (The baby displayed on Sphere is never seen, and the outside of Sphere is not seen at any point during the video.)
This short edit was sent out for promotion on the same day as the longer “Alternative Edit” of the video, and both were sent together.
