Video Information

In 2025, U2 put together a collection of lyric videos for lesser known songs in their catalogs, songs which hadn’t been widely released as singles, and therefore had no video. The collection kicked off with “Iris (Hold Me Close)”, released on May 11, 2025. These videos were available via YouTube, and also made available to purchase / stream via other digital platforms.

The video uses lyrics, and photos from the original era, and also includes footage of a live performance of the song taken from the 2015 tour film, shot in Paris.

The video was released as the promotion starts for Bono’s upcoming film, Stories of Surrender at the end of May. The song itself deals with the loss of Bono’s mother, Iris, a topic also covered in the film. The video clip was released via YouTube on the U2 account. Social media accounts announcing the video carried the message, “Iris. For the mothers we hold close.” The date of release was Mother’s Day in North America.
